Veteran skater Roxy Rockett will be returning to Dorton Arena with the Carolina All Stars next Sunday, April 18th in our Dorton season opener. Come watch the green helmet take on our visitors from Montreal!

Q: What brought you to the Carolina Rollergirls?
RR: Celia Fate when she handed me a flyer back in 2003 at the Great Cover up at Kings. I went to a speed practice (her birthday night actually.. when she got her first pair of derby skates) and skated with her, Eva, Sam (owner of Skate Ranch) and someone else.

Q: How long have you been involved with the sport?
RR: More than five years with derby. I have been skating for twenty-nine years. No lie. My folks use to drop me and my sister off at Skate Town every Friday and Saturday night. Faye Tallity (retired CRG skater) use to skate there as well.

Q: What is your favorite aspect of playing roller derby?
RR: Skating and training. I love to help skaters better themselves on the track.

Q: Who is the biggest supporter in your life of you playing this sport?
RR: My parents (Momma and Papa Roxy), my daughter, Carmin, my baby boy, Jackson and my husband, Garrett. Actually, I do not have any non-supporters in my life.

Q: So you’ve got three free tickets you can give to anyone, living or dead, and they’ll come to the next bout. Who do you invite?
RR: My Grandfather (dad’s side), My Grandmother (mom’s side) and the biggest derby hater in the world.

Q: What was your first impression of skating at Dorton Arena?
RR: OMG… it was the best feeling ever. I use to go to speed skating competitions there when I was young and have always loved Dorton. To cheese this up a bit, it has been a dream come true!

Q: Where have you traveled, and what place did you love the most?
RR: I’ve traveled to a lot of different cities helping with derby training… but the best one thus far has been New Orleans. The history of Katrina and the beautiful houses and wonderful food… not to mention, The Big Easy girls are a super group of ladies!

Q: What do you like the most about living in the Triangle area?
RR: It’s home. I was born and raised here. I get home sick when I’m gone too long.

Q: Where is one place in the Triangle where you spend too much money?
RR: Natty Greene’s (Smoky Mountain Porter… in the growler!)

Q: Which events in the Triangle do you enjoy attending every year?
RR: St. Paddy’s Day Parade in downtown Raleigh. The crowd is amazingly supportive!

Q: What do you like to rock out to while skating at speed practice or cleaning the house?
RR: Depends on the day… but a good staple is old school shuffle skate jams from the 80’s.

Q: What are your favorite meals to cook at home?
RR: Coconut Curry Tofu, Turkey Chili, Tempeh and Rice, smoovies

Q: What is your stupid human trick?
RR: I can sound like an elephant.. it’s amazing! I scare little kids.
