Derby name? Drag name? Bingo!

On February 10th Carolina Rollergirls participated in the Alliance of AIDS Services- Carolina’s  Drag Bingo event, held in the Cotton Room at Golden Belt in downtown Durham.  Originally known as Gay Bingo, with event origins in Seattle and Philadelphia, Drag Bingo came to the Triangle in 2002 and has been held regularly in Durham since 2004.

We never claimed to be a tall league...

In attendance were three Carolina Rollergirls to promote an upcoming bout and support the Alliance event. It turns out that drag performers love roller derby, and in a happy coincidence, the Rollergirls in attendance love drag shows.

A highlight of the evening was a heartfelt performance of Whitney Houston’s signature song, I Will Always Love You. Though the CRG skaters did play bingo, there were no winners among us that evening. So, we will try again on March 17th, when the theme will be Pop Up Video Bingo. For time and location, check out the schedule here.

If you plan on attending, please stop by the CRG table – the one with skate wheels on it, and derby players behind it – to say hello and grab a bout schedule.
