On March 24th, Lonerider brewery held their 4th Annual Brew it Forward event at Tir Na Nog and invited CRG to participate. CRG skater Mallory Knocks was the emcee for Brew it Forward, which this year benefited the non-profit organization Nourish International.
The event was packed, and special kegs were brewed and tapped for the event. Home brewers also competed for awards and special recognition, and since rollergirls always appreciate keen competition, skater Erna Beatin’ noted that, “When the brewers were awarded you could see how proud they were of themselves and how excited all their fellow brewers were for them.”

Among the special casks tapped and tried were Shotgun Betty with Lemon Zest, the Preacher, and Peacemaker with Hibiscus. CRG skaters were especially fond of the variations on Sweet Josie Brown – both chocolate and pepper and bourbon soaked oak chips.
CRG All Star coach Kelly Hurd also represented CRG at Brew it Forward and found a lot of derby fans in the crowd. In fact, her recruitment into CRG began at a similar event. She recalls, “That’s when they snagged me back in 2008, at a restaurant opening where the Carolina Rollergirls were there to promote our local league.” In terms of fun, chatting with fans while drinking great beer is almost as good as skating. And because Lonerider is poured at our bouts, we had CRG beer steins and koozies on hand for our enthusiastic supporters.

It is critical to CRG’s League performance to have sponsors like Tir na Nog and Lonerider Brewery. Working with Pete from Tir Na Nog as well as Sumit, Harmony, Jackie and the guys from the brewery at a great event – with beer! – is a total bonus.
